National Police Commission halts transfers of senior officers

The National Police Commission (NPC) has cancelled the postings of Senior Deputy Inspector General Ranmal Kodituwakku and Deputy Inspector General Ashoka Dharmasena, who heads the Police Narcotics Bureau, among other officers. The decision came into effect immediately, according to officials familiar with the matter.

The cancellation represents a significant reversal of personnel decisions that would have affected key positions within Sri Lanka's police hierarchy. Kodituwakku and Dharmasena hold prominent roles within the police service, with the latter overseeing drug enforcement operations across the country.

The NPC, which serves as the apex body for police administration and discipline, has broad authority to approve, modify, or cancel officer transfers and postings. The commission's action suggests a reassessment of staffing arrangements within the police force's upper echelons.

No official statement detailing the reasons for the cancellations has been released by the commission. The move affects a broader cohort of officers beyond those named, though specific details regarding the other affected personnel remain unclear.
