Unsettled weather conditions are expected to persist across the island on October 16, with showers or thundershowers forecast to occur throughout the day in the Western, Southern, Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western and Northern provinces, as well as the Anuradhapura District, according to the Department of Meteorology.
The meteorological authority anticipates that other parts of the island will experience rainfall after 1:00 p.m., with the unsettled conditions likely to continue into the evening hours. The widespread nature of the forecast suggests that most regions will face disruptions from weather-related impacts.
Damaging rainfall in excess of 100 millimetres is expected to occur at isolated locations, which could potentially lead to localized flooding and water accumulation in low-lying areas. Such heavy concentrations of rain pose risks to infrastructure and may affect transportation and daily activities.
The Department of Meteorology has issued the alert to enable residents and authorities to take necessary precautions. Commuters are advised to exercise caution when traveling, and households in vulnerable areas are recommended to monitor weather updates closely.
