NATO Chief Says Alliance Prepared for Russian Hybrid Warfare

Denmark's Defence Intelligence Service recently assessed that Russia would probably escalate hybrid operations targeting NATO members and allied nations. Such attacks have already affected several European countries, disrupting critical infrastructure and attempting to influence public opinion through coordinated disinformation efforts.

The NATO chief's remarks reflect the alliance's shift toward preparing member states for asymmetric threats that fall short of traditional military aggression. NATO has increasingly emphasised the need for collective defence strategies that address cyber vulnerabilities, energy security, and information warfare alongside traditional security concerns.

Member states have been advised to strengthen resilience across critical infrastructure sectors and coordinate responses to hybrid threats. NATO officials have stressed that attribution of such attacks remains challenging, complicating efforts to assign responsibility and determine appropriate responses under collective defence provisions.
