Navratri Day 7: Devotees worship Maa Kalaratri across India

The seventh day of the nine-day Navratri festival, observed in 2026, is dedicated to the worship of Maa Kalaratri, one of the most powerful and fearsome forms of Goddess Durga. Devotees across India mark the occasion with elaborate puja ceremonies and ritualistic practices to seek the goddess's blessings and protection from evil forces.

On Saptami, as the day is known in Sanskrit, followers perform specific worship procedures that include offering prayers at dawn and lighting oil lamps in homes and temples. The colour associated with Maa Kalaratri is considered to be white, and many devotees wear or display this colour during the day's celebrations. The goddess is traditionally depicted with a dark complexion, riding a donkey, symbolizing her role as a vanquisher of demons and negativity.

Devotees prepare traditional food offerings known as 'bhog' as part of the day's observances. These offerings typically include khichdi, halwa, and other items prepared with devotional intent. Sacred mantras and chants dedicated to Maa Kalaratri are recited throughout the day, with the Aarti ceremony being performed during morning and evening hours in households and temples.

The worship of Maa Kalaratri on the seventh day of Navratri is believed to bestow courage, strength, and liberation from fear upon devotees. Many families gather for collective prayers and continue the nine-day festival's tradition of seeking divine intervention and spiritual renewal.
