Nine Indian nationals and their fishing vessel were transported to Kankesanthurai harbour on the morning of 4 October following their apprehension by the Sri Lankan Navy. The fishermen were detained on 3 October while engaged in unauthorised fishing operations in waters south of Delft Island in the Jaffna district.

Navy personnel intercepted the fishing boat after it crossed into Sri Lankan waters beyond the International Maritime Boundary. The vessel and its crew were subsequently taken into custody as part of ongoing operations to prevent illegal fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters.

The apprehension underscores continued efforts by the Navy to enforce maritime regulations and protect the country's fishing resources. The incident represents part of a broader pattern of enforcement actions against unauthorised fishing activities in the island's northern waters.
