Naval vessels have been deployed in ongoing operations to trace four fishermen who departed from Kudawella fisheries harbour on 21 October and failed to return, as well as three others reported missing from Chalai. The search missions commenced after the vessels did not arrive at their expected destinations, prompting families to alert authorities.

The Sri Lanka Navy's search and rescue teams have been working systematically across the designated fishing grounds, utilising available resources to cover the likely drift patterns and search zones. Maritime conditions in the area have been monitored closely to guide rescue efforts.

While specific details regarding the vessels and their last known positions remain under review by naval authorities, the operations represent a continued commitment to locating the missing fishermen. Families of those lost at sea have been kept informed of developments as the search progresses.

The incident underscores the ongoing risks faced by fishing communities operating in regional waters. The Navy regularly conducts search and rescue missions for fishermen reported missing, with outcomes depending heavily on sea conditions and the speed of initial reporting.
