Navy seizes Rs. 1.5 billion haul of ice and heroin in Jaffna

Naval forces operating in waters off the Northern Province have successfully apprehended a significant drug consignment during a recent maritime patrol. The interdiction resulted in the seizure of ice and heroin totalling around 81 kilograms, making it one of the more substantial drug hauls reported in recent months.

The street value of the confiscated narcotics is estimated to exceed Rs. 1.5 billion, underscoring the scale of trafficking activities in the region. The seizure represents a substantial blow to drug smuggling networks believed to be operating in the Indian Ocean and northern coastal waters.

The Navy's anti-narcotics operations have intensified in recent months as authorities seek to dismantle trafficking routes and disrupt supply chains feeding illicit drug markets across the island.
