MANILA — National Bureau of Investigation Director Melvin Matibag on Tuesday extended an invitation to Vice President Sara Duterte to formally present her side regarding accusations leveled against her by dismissed police officer Rodulfo Gracioso Jr.
Matibag's statement came after Duterte released a public statement Monday evening confirming receipt of Gracioso's affidavit. Duterte has described the allegations as false and without merit.
The NBI chief encouraged the Vice President to participate in the ongoing investigation, offering the bureau as a venue for her to submit evidence and testimony addressing the former police officer's account. Gracioso, who was previously dismissed from the Philippine National Police, filed his affidavit containing allegations against Duterte.
The invitation represents part of the NBI's investigative process as it examines the matters raised in Gracioso's sworn statement. The agency has not disclosed specific details of the allegations or the nature of Gracioso's claims against the Vice President.
Duterte has not yet publicly indicated whether she will appear before the NBI or provide a formal response to the allegations.
