MANILA — The National Bureau of Investigation said Monday it is examining the business relationships between entrepreneur Jaime T. Cruz and firms associated with Vice President Sara Duterte and her brothers, according to NBI Director Melvin Matibag.
The investigation extends to properties owned or declared by members of the Duterte family that may have been reported at values substantially lower than their actual worth, Matibag said during a briefing.
The NBI did not immediately provide details on the scope of the inquiry or specific allegations underlying the investigation. The bureau said it is examining corporate documents and property records as part of its preliminary assessment.
Vice President Duterte has not yet publicly commented on the NBI's investigation. The inquiry marks the latest in a series of scrutinies directed at the vice president and her family since she assumed office.
