The National Bureau of Investigation said Monday it is examining real estate holdings connected to Vice President Sara Duterte and her brother, Davao City Representative Paolo Duterte, following the discovery of a significant gap between declared and estimated property values.
According to NBI Director Melvin Matibag, investigators identified a Davao City property listed in official records at around P890,000 that appears to have a market value substantially higher—potentially reaching P60 million. The discrepancy has triggered the bureau's examination into the family's real estate portfolio.
The investigation focuses on whether property valuations were deliberately understated in official filings. Such undervaluation practices could have implications for asset declarations and tax obligations, areas typically scrutinized by financial crimes units.
The Duterte family has long been a subject of public interest regarding its wealth and business interests in Mindanao. Vice President Duterte has previously addressed various allegations and controversies throughout her political career.
The NBI's probe is part of broader efforts to ensure accuracy in asset declarations and compliance with financial reporting requirements among public officials in the Philippines.
