NBI to issue subpoenas in Davao flood control projects probe

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will serve subpoenas Monday to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Davao Regional Director Juby Cordon and three construction companies as part of an expanding inquiry into infrastructure spending in the city, according to NBI Director Melvin Matibag.

The action follows the bureau's identification of 47 flood control projects in Davao City that fall within the congressional district of Rep. Paolo Duterte. The investigation has raised questions about the oversight and implementation of these public works initiatives.

Matibag said the subpoenas represent the next phase of the NBI's fact-finding efforts into the projects. The development marks an escalation in the bureau's scrutiny of infrastructure spending in the region, with investigators now seeking direct testimony and documentation from key officials and private contractors involved.

The investigation comes amid broader concerns about project accountability and procurement processes in public works undertakings across Mindanao. Officials have not yet disclosed specific allegations or irregularities that prompted the inquiry into the flood control initiatives.
