MANILA — The National Bureau of Investigation will scrutinize the financial disclosures of Davao City First District Representative Paolo Duterte as part of its ongoing investigation into unreported assets, NBI Director Melvin Matibag announced Thursday.

Matibag disclosed the development during a press conference, noting that the agency's examination would extend to Duterte's Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth, or SALN documents. The move represents a broader scope of inquiry into properties that may not have been properly declared.

The investigation reportedly centers on a mansion located near a resort property, though Matibag clarified that the resort itself was not the subject of initial concern. The NBI has been examining whether the properties were appropriately disclosed in official filings.

The development marks an intensification of the agency's probe into potential undisclosed wealth accumulation. Such examinations of SALN documents are standard procedure when investigators seek to cross-reference declared assets with evidence of property ownership or financial holdings uncovered during investigations.
