NCDEX, Cotton Association sign accord to expand derivatives market

The National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) and the Cotton Association of India (CAI) have entered into a strategic partnership to deepen participation in cotton derivatives markets. The agreement will focus on promoting greater adoption of derivatives instruments among key stakeholders in the cotton industry, including farmers, ginners, spinners, exporters and traders.

Under the pact, both organizations will work jointly to improve price discovery mechanisms in cotton futures trading. Enhanced price transparency is expected to enable better decision-making across the supply chain and provide stakeholders with more reliable benchmarks for cotton valuations.

The partnership also prioritizes expanding awareness and understanding of hedging tools among cotton industry participants. Educational initiatives and outreach programs will target smaller players who have historically had limited access to or knowledge of derivative instruments for risk management.

By broadening participation in cotton derivatives markets, the collaboration seeks to strengthen India's cotton trading ecosystem. The move aligns with efforts to develop deeper, more liquid commodity futures markets that serve the country's agricultural sector.
