NCDEX expands into equities with twin index launches

The National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) has taken a significant step towards becoming a multi-segment exchange by launching two new equity indices, marking its expansion beyond its traditional agricultural commodities focus.

The NDEX index will track 20 large-cap and highly liquid stocks, providing investors with exposure to India's most actively traded equities. Complementing this offering, the FINNDEX will concentrate on the financial services sector, encompassing 15 listed financial companies across banking, insurance, and other financial segments.

The dual-index launch reflects NCDEX's strategic pivot to diversify its revenue streams and compete more broadly in India's financial markets infrastructure. By introducing equity benchmarks alongside its established commodity and derivatives platforms, the exchange aims to attract a wider investor base and enhance its relevance in the country's capital markets ecosystem.

These indices are designed to serve as reference points for financial products and investment strategies, allowing institutional and retail investors to gain targeted exposure to specific market segments. The move positions NCDEX to better compete with larger bourses while leveraging its existing technology and risk management infrastructure.
