The National Cooperative Enterprises Limited (NCEL) and the Cooperative Federation (COOPFED) have formalised their collaboration through a memorandum of understanding focused on the supply of essential food commodities. The agreement represents a strategic initiative to streamline distribution channels and ensure consistent availability of vital provisions throughout the country.

Under the terms of the MoU, the organisations will coordinate their efforts to manage and distribute essential food items more effectively. The partnership leverages the combined infrastructure and networks of both NCEL and COOPFED to reach consumers across urban and rural areas alike.

The move comes as Sri Lanka continues to navigate economic challenges that have affected commodity supply chains. By pooling resources and operational expertise, the two cooperatives aim to maintain stable supplies of critical food products and contribute to price stability in key consumer goods.

The collaboration is expected to benefit members of both cooperative networks while supporting broader national objectives of food security and consumer welfare. Officials indicated that the partnership would enable more efficient resource allocation and improved coordination across the cooperative sector.
