The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has integrated entrepreneurship education into its Class 9 Social Science textbook, introducing secondary school students to the fundamentals of business creation and development. The curriculum move comes at a time when India's startup ecosystem has experienced exponential growth, signalling the education board's intent to nurture an entrepreneurial mindset among younger generations.

According to the newly updated material, India's startup landscape has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past decade. While the country had between 350-400 startups approximately ten years ago, the ecosystem has since expanded substantially to encompass nearly 2.3 lakh registered enterprises. This remarkable expansion underscores India's emergence as a significant player in global entrepreneurship and innovation.

The inclusion of business startup education in the Class 9 curriculum reflects a broader educational shift towards practical, real-world skills alongside traditional academic content. By introducing students to entrepreneurial concepts at the secondary school level, NCERT aims to equip learners with foundational knowledge about business planning, innovation, and market dynamics.

Education analysts view the curriculum update as a strategic initiative to align classroom learning with contemporary economic opportunities in India. As the startup ecosystem continues to mature and create employment opportunities, exposure to entrepreneurial principles at school level may encourage students to pursue career paths in business creation and innovation.
