NDA coalition ministers sidestep Uniform Civil Code questions in Bihar

Three ministers representing NDA coalition partners participating in the Panchayat Aajtak programme in Bihar declined to reveal their positions on the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC), saying they would wait for the draft to be formally presented before commenting.

The three ministers from the alliance quota seats maintained their silence on the contentious issue, which has sparked debate across political circles in the state. Analysts suggest the caution reflects the sensitive political calculations involved in commenting on a measure that remains under discussion within government circles.

However, contrasting views emerged among the panelists on other key policy matters. Ministers Santosh Suman and Sanjay Paswan presented opposing perspectives on the review of existing reservation policies and the proposed sub-categorisation within reserved categories—issues that have gained prominence in Bihar's political discourse.

The divergence in positions highlights the varied interests within the ruling coalition as it navigates multiple policy priorities.
