NDA surges ahead in Andhra Pradesh local body elections

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has emerged as the clear frontrunner in Andhra Pradesh's Zone Parishad and Mandal Parishad elections, capitalizing on what party leaders attribute to effective governance. By 9 p.m. on counting day, the TDP had secured wins in 229 ZPTCs and 4,823 MPTCs, significantly outpacing rival parties in the local body contests.

Allies within the NDA coalition have also made substantial gains. The Jana Sena Party, TDP's coalition partner, won 36 ZPTCs and 644 MPTCs, while the Bharatiya Janata Party secured eight ZPTCs and 130 MPTCs. The results represent a marked shift from previous electoral patterns in the state.

The opposition YSR Congress Party, which governed the state until recently, has been relegated to a distant third position with 20 ZPTCs and 1,050 MPTCs. The TDP's capture of the Pulivendula ZPTC, a significant victory in YSRCP's stronghold region, signals the extent of the swing in voter preference.

Party officials have attributed the NDA's strong performance to public approval of the state government's developmental initiatives. The results in these grassroots-level elections suggest considerable momentum for the ruling coalition in Andhra Pradesh's political landscape.
