NEA issues legal notices to seven firms over regional haze pollution
Singapore's National Environment Agency has identified seven companies responsible for contributing to the region's haze and will serve them with legal notices under environmental protection laws. The agency is prepared to pursue further enforcement action where necessary.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) has tracked hotspots and smoke plumes originating from fires across the region to pinpoint companies whose operations have contributed to Singapore's haze pollution. Seven firms have been identified as responsible parties, and the NEA will issue legal notices to each of them in accordance with applicable environmental legislation.
The enforcement action follows the NEA's systematic monitoring of air quality and transboundary smoke sources. By correlating satellite data of fire locations with atmospheric conditions and smoke trajectory analysis, investigators were able to attribute the haze to specific commercial operations in neighbouring countries.
The legal notices will formally notify the identified companies of their role in creating the transboundary pollution and their obligations under regional and bilateral environmental agreements. The NEA indicated that it stands ready to escalate enforcement measures, including further legal action, should the companies fail to comply with directives or should additional violations be identified.
The move underscores Singapore's commitment to addressing the persistent haze problem that affects air quality and public health across Southeast Asia during burning seasons. Regional cooperation and accountability from source countries remain central to mitigating the recurring air pollution crisis.
