LUCENA CITY — Approximately 96 families have been forced to evacuate from their homes in Lian, Batangas, as enhanced southwest monsoon conditions unleashed heavy rainfall across the coastal municipality on Tuesday.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office reported a steady increase in evacuees throughout the day as floodwaters inundated several barangays. The relentless monsoon rains showed no signs of abating, with meteorological forecasts indicating continued precipitation in the region.
Local authorities opened emergency evacuation centers to accommodate displaced residents, coordinating relief operations across multiple sites. The MSWDO maintained active monitoring of the situation to track real-time changes in the number of families requiring assistance.
Lian joins other municipalities in Batangas already affected by the enhanced monsoon system. Regional disaster management officials urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and heed evacuation orders as weather conditions continued to deteriorate.
The enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, typically brings significant rainfall to western portions of Luzon during the summer and early autumn months. Authorities advised the public to avoid flooded areas and maintain readiness for potential further displacement as the weather event persisted.
