Nearly 22,000 BUDI diesel subsidy transfers approved by government
The government has approved close to 21,700 applications allowing non-registered vehicle owners to transfer BUDI Madani diesel subsidy entitlements, Parliament heard on Monday.

KUALA LUMPUR — Parliament was informed that the government has greenlit the transfer of diesel subsidies under the BUDI Madani programme for individuals who are not the registered owners of their vehicles. The approvals, numbering nearly 21,700, represent a significant portion of applications submitted under the subsidy transfer mechanism since the programme's inception.
The BUDI Madani initiative, which aims to provide targeted fuel subsidies to eligible recipients, has been modified to permit transfers of subsidy allocations between individuals. This flexibility has addressed concerns from applicants who do not hold vehicle registration but require access to subsidised diesel fuel.
The approval of transfer applications indicates efforts by authorities to streamline subsidy distribution and accommodate circumstances where vehicle ownership and subsidy eligibility may not align. The figure was disclosed during parliamentary proceedings, reflecting ongoing government engagement with the subsidy programme's administration and public accessibility.
The BUDI Madani scheme represents one of Malaysia's targeted approaches to managing fuel subsidy expenditure while maintaining support for specific population segments and business sectors reliant on diesel fuel.
