LUCENA CITY — The tally of families displaced across the Calabarzon region has climbed to 2,947 as the enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, maintains its assault on the area, the Department of Social Welfare and Development reported Thursday.

The surge in displacement figures reflects the intensifying impact of heavy rains that have triggered significant flooding throughout multiple municipalities and cities across the region spanning Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon provinces.

Local government units across Calabarzon have reported rising water levels and widespread inundation affecting residential communities. The DSWD has been coordinating with these local authorities to track displacement numbers and coordinate emergency assistance and temporary shelter arrangements for affected families.

The habagat, which typically brings heavy precipitation to the western sections of Luzon, shows no immediate signs of weakening. Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow evacuation protocols as weather conditions continue to deteriorate.

The DSWD continues to monitor the situation and prepare additional support measures for those displaced by the ongoing weather emergency.
