Nearly 40% of home molestation cases involve child victims under 16
Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs has raised concerns over the prevalence of child sexual abuse within domestic settings. Data from the first half of 2026 reveals that almost 40 per cent of molestation cases occurring in homes involved victims under the age of 16.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) disclosed on Wednesday that child victims comprised a significant proportion of molestation cases in residential settings during the January-June 2026 period. Out of 227 recorded molestation cases in homes, nearly 40 per cent involved minors below the age of 16, highlighting the vulnerability of young children within family and domestic environments.
The figures underscore concerns about child safety in spaces traditionally considered secure. Home-based sexual abuse represents a particularly serious issue, as victims are often unable to report incidents due to familial relationships, dependency, or fear of family disruption.
The MHA's disclosure comes as Singapore continues to strengthen safeguarding measures for vulnerable populations. Authorities have emphasised the importance of awareness programmes and encouraging reporting mechanisms that allow victims to come forward without fear of repercussions.
Community organisations and support services remain available for victims of sexual assault, with multiple channels for reporting and assistance established to address such offences effectively.
