ILOILO CITY — Severe flooding swept across 56 barangays in Iloilo City late Monday as heavy rains intensified by the Southwest Monsoon system battered the region. The deluge prompted approximately 479 families to abandon their residences and seek emergency shelter in designated evacuation centers.
Rainfall rates escalated dramatically at 8:10 p.m., with city disaster monitoring sensors recording extreme hourly precipitation levels across multiple districts. The escalating conditions triggered authorities to issue a Violet Alert, signaling the most severe weather warning status.
The widespread inundation affected residential areas throughout the city, with water levels rising rapidly in low-lying communities. Local government units activated emergency response protocols to assist displaced residents and coordinate relief operations.
The Southwest Monsoon system, locally known as Habagat, is expected to continue bringing significant rainfall to the region over the coming days. Authorities have advised residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow evacuation orders as needed.
