The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) issued a warning Saturday covering 8,823 barangays across the Philippines that face heightened risks from landslides and flooding triggered by heavy rainfall.

The alert is based on a 72-hour rainfall forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the country's national meteorological agency. The MGB regularly cross-references PAGASA weather data with geological hazard mapping to identify vulnerable communities.

The affected barangays represent areas with terrain susceptible to slope failures and flooding during periods of sustained or intense precipitation. The advisory urges local government units and residents in these communities to prepare evacuation plans and implement early warning systems.

MGB officials remind communities in high-risk areas to monitor weather updates closely and heed evacuation orders when issued by local authorities. The agency continues to coordinate with disaster management agencies to support preparedness and response efforts nationwide.
