Negeri Sembilan denies ruler interfered in customary leadership matter

The Negeri Sembilan Dewan Kerajaan (DKU) has refuted claims that the state ruler intervened improperly in customary matters, clarifying that recent personnel changes followed established constitutional procedures.

A DKU spokesperson confirmed that the undang of Sungei Ujong was dismissed by territorial chiefs in accordance with customary practice. The decision was subsequently endorsed by the DKU as part of its constitutionally mandated governance role in the state.

The clarification comes amid scrutiny over the handling of the leadership transition within Sungei Ujong, one of Negeri Sembilan's traditional chiefdoms. Officials stressed that the DKU's approval reflected its legitimate authority to ratify such decisions within the framework of state administration.

Negeri Sembilan's constitutional structure grants the DKU specific oversight responsibilities in customary and administrative matters affecting the state's traditional governance structures. The council maintains that all recent actions have been consistent with these established protocols and the state constitution.
