KUALA PILAH, Oct 14 — The Negeri Sembilan ruler has stressed the importance of adhering to both traditional customs and legal procedures when addressing royal succession matters in the state.
Tuanku Muhriz underscored that disputes arising from succession issues must be settled in accordance with adat, the established customary practices of the Negeri Sembilan royal institution, as well as relevant statutory provisions.
The emphasis on following prescribed protocols reflects the state's commitment to maintaining order and legitimacy in matters of royal governance. Negeri Sembilan's unique constitutional arrangement, where succession is determined by a council of rulers rather than simple primogeniture, makes adherence to proper procedures particularly significant.
The ruler's statement comes amid ongoing scrutiny of succession practices across Malaysia's various state monarchies, with legal experts and constitutional observers emphasising the need for clarity and consistency in how such sensitive matters are handled.
Official channels remain the appropriate avenue for resolving any succession-related disputes, according to the royal pronouncement.
