KUALA LUMPUR — A group of Undangs, or traditional chiefs, in Negeri Sembilan have dropped their legal action seeking to depose the Yamtuan Negeri Sembilan, the state's paramount ruler, the High Court heard on Monday. The court ruled that the four plaintiffs cannot refile their lawsuit, effectively closing the chapter on the constitutional challenge. The case had centred on questions of succession and the powers vested in the state's ruling institution, matters of significant constitutional importance in the federation. The decision brings to an end months of legal proceedings that had drawn attention to the customary governance structures unique to Negeri Sembilan. No reasons for the withdrawal were disclosed in court. The ruling prevents the Undangs from pursuing similar legal remedies on the same grounds in future proceedings. Legal experts had closely monitored the case as it touched on the delicate balance between traditional authority and modern constitutional law in Malaysia's complex system of governance.
