Negros commemorates first anniversary of deadly Typhoon Tino

BACOLOD CITY — Negros Island held a day of collective remembrance Wednesday to mark the first anniversary of Typhoon Tino, which devastated the region on November 4, 2025. The natural disaster claimed the lives of 106 residents, while 34 others remain missing nearly a year after the typhoon struck.

The Negros Occidental provincial government organized observances throughout the day, including a Holy Mass at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City. Religious services and prayer vigils were conducted across various municipalities and barangays, drawing residents and officials to pay respects to those lost.

Typhoon Tino ranks among the deadliest storms to impact Negros Island in recent years. The commemorative events served as a reminder of the region's resilience in the aftermath of the disaster, as communities continued recovery and reconstruction efforts throughout the past twelve months.

Provincial officials have encouraged residents to participate in remembrance activities as a means of honoring the victims and acknowledging the collective trauma experienced across the island. The ongoing search for missing persons remained a concern as the anniversary approached.
