In a significant recovery operation, the Nellore Railway Police have traced and restored 50 lost mobile phones to passengers, bringing relief to commuters who had written off their devices as gone for good. The phones, collectively valued at around ₹10 lakh, were recovered through a systematic search operation conducted by specially constituted teams at the station.
The police deployed the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, a national database that tracks mobile device information, along with IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) tracking technology to locate the misplaced handsets. This technical approach enabled authorities to identify the rightful owners and coordinate their recovery.
The recovery initiative demonstrates the railway police's commitment to tackling the persistent problem of lost and stolen mobile devices at transit hubs. Nellore railway station, one of the busy transport junctions in Andhra Pradesh, witnesses significant passenger footfall daily, making it a hotspot for lost belongings.
Railway officials have advised commuters to remain vigilant with their personal belongings while traveling and to immediately report lost devices to the police for swift recovery. They also emphasised the importance of registering mobile phones with carriers and maintaining records of IMEI numbers to facilitate quick identification and recovery in case of loss.
