The disaster, triggered by heavy monsoon rains and glacial instability in the Himalayan highlands, has displaced thousands and destroyed critical infrastructure in multiple districts.

Chinese and Nepalese rescue teams have established joint command centers to streamline search and recovery efforts in the most heavily impacted valleys. Rescue workers have accessed previously isolated communities, recovering bodies and providing emergency aid to survivors.
