Nepal death toll from devastating flash floods reaches 987

Security forces across Nepal continued retrieving bodies from flood-affected areas, pushing the confirmed death toll to 987, according to officials from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

The scale of the humanitarian crisis remains significant, with 3,916 people unaccounted for, including 583 foreigners. The NDRRMA estimates indicate the true impact of the disaster that swept through multiple districts. Nepal Army personnel and other security forces have intensified search and rescue operations as hopes of finding survivors diminish.

The flood's impact has been heavily concentrated in specific districts. The NDRRMA reported that Chitwan has seen the highest death toll with 321 bodies recovered, followed by Nawalparasi East with 216 deaths and Nawalparasi West with 170. Other severely affected areas include Nuwakot with 95 confirmed deaths, Gorkha with 65, Dhading with 55, Tanahun with 38, and Rasuwa with 27.

Among the 279 injured persons documented so far, 168 have received treatment and been discharged from hospitals, while others remain hospitalized. The eight districts affected by the flooding span significant portions of central and western Nepal, with authorities continuing to assess full damage to infrastructure and livelihoods.
