Nepal declines international aid after devastating flash floods kill hundreds

Devastating flash floods have ravaged Nepal, with the disaster particularly affecting Rasuwa district near the Chinese border, where entire settlements have been levelled by the torrential waters. The natural calamity has claimed close to 500 lives, according to preliminary reports, making it one of the country's deadliest recent disasters.
Despite the scale of destruction, Nepal's government has declined offers of rescue teams and humanitarian assistance from foreign nations, asserting that its own disaster management capabilities are adequate to handle the crisis. Officials stated they have mobilized domestic resources to conduct search and rescue operations and provide relief to affected communities.
The floods have caused substantial infrastructure damage across the affected regions. Critical hydropower projects have been severely impacted, with multiple installations damaged or destroyed, potentially affecting the country's energy supply. The disaster has also destroyed homes, roads, and agricultural land in multiple districts, displacing thousands of residents.
Rasuwa district, situated at the border with China and a region of significant strategic and economic importance, has borne the brunt of the flooding. The district's vulnerable geography and proximity to mountain terrain made it particularly susceptible to flash flood events triggered by heavy rainfall.
