Nepal flash floods destroy dozens of homes, sweep away bridges in Gorkha

Nepal's Gorkha district faced severe flooding on Sunday as torrential waters inundated villages in the region, causing widespread destruction and displacement. The sudden deluge destroyed 35 houses in Paiyu and Bagar villages, leaving residents with significant losses and forcing many to seek shelter elsewhere.

The floodwaters also damaged critical infrastructure across the district. Multiple suspension bridges and motorable bridges were swept away or submerged by the powerful current, disrupting connectivity and complicating rescue and relief operations in affected areas.

Local administration has issued alerts to communities living in low-lying zones adjacent to river systems, advising them to vacate to higher ground and designated safe zones. Authorities have intensified monitoring of water levels and weather patterns as rescue operations commence in the affected villages.

The flooding marks another in a recurring pattern of monsoon-related disasters across Nepal, where terrain and seasonal weather patterns make communities particularly vulnerable to flash floods and related hazards. Gorkha district has historically faced significant flooding during heavy rainfall seasons.
