Nepal flood death toll hits 1,127 as rescue teams search for thousands

The death toll from Nepal's devastating flash floods has climbed to 1,127, according to Nepal Police, as rescue teams continue their urgent hunt for thousands of missing persons one week after the disaster struck. The country's security forces have managed to rescue 6,541 people from affected areas, while search operations are ongoing for 4,858 missing individuals.

Recovery operations have been concentrated in the hardest-hit districts. Chitwan has seen 348 bodies recovered, followed by 217 from Nawalparasi East and 190 from Nawalparasi West. Nuwakot district has yielded 155 bodies, while Gorkha, Dhading, Rasuwa, and Tanahu have reported 66, 59, 45, and 38 fatalities respectively.

Automated identification efforts are underway to reunite families with their deceased. Police have completed postmortem and legal identification procedures for 1,113 of the recovered bodies, with 95 already handed over to relatives. Details of 911 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the Nepal Police website in an effort to assist families in locating their missing relatives.

To coordinate the massive relief and recovery operation, authorities have deployed 7,912 police personnel to flood-affected regions. These personnel are engaged in search and rescue operations, distributing relief supplies, and providing humanitarian assistance to displaced communities.
