Nepal flood death toll surges past 1,350 as rescue operations intensify

Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority confirmed on Tuesday that the devastating floods have claimed 1,357 lives, with recovery operations still underway in affected areas across the country. Joint security forces have recovered hundreds of bodies from various districts, including 363 from Chitawan, 223 from Nawalparasi East, and 222 from Nawalparasi West. Additional fatalities have been confirmed in Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Gorkha, Dhading, and Tanahu districts.

Rescue teams remain engaged in an extensive search operation for 5,326 people reported missing across the affected regions. The NDRRMA stated that more than 13,583 individuals have been rescued to date, with authorities working to identify and return recovered bodies to families. So far, 102 victims have been identified and handed over to relatives following legal formalities.

The catastrophic flooding was triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border, which sent the Bhotekoshi River surging downstream with devastating force. The event has affected multiple districts in Nepal, overwhelming local authorities and relief organizations coordinating the response. Rescue operations continue across all impacted areas as officials work to account for the remaining missing persons and provide assistance to displaced communities.
