Nepal floods: Tamil Nadu tourists rescued as operations continue

Flooding in Nepal has disrupted travel plans for over a hundred tourists from South India, with rescue operations underway to evacuate those stranded by the disaster. A total of 57 people from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry had travelled to Nepal as part of an organized tour when the floods struck, officials said.

Twenty members of the group have so far been brought to safety, according to statements from Tamil Nadu authorities. However, 34 tourists from Tamil Nadu remain to be rescued, with efforts to retrieve them hampered by the challenging conditions caused by the flooding.

In addition to the original tour group, another 49 people who had separately travelled from Chennai to Nepal are also affected by the disaster. These individuals are among the numerous travellers caught in the flooding, which has caused widespread disruption across the region.

State authorities have said rescue operations are continuing at an accelerated pace, though the exact timeline for evacuating all stranded tourists remains unclear. The Indian government has been coordinating with Nepali authorities to ensure the safe passage of Indian nationals affected by the natural disaster.
