Nepal issues fresh flood alert as water levels surge in devastated region
Nepalese authorities have issued a new flood warning after water levels rose at the site of a catastrophic flash flood that struck central Nepal earlier this week. The alert urges residents and rescue workers to relocate to higher ground immediately.

Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) issued the warning on Friday, citing elevated water levels mixed with sediment at the location where the initial flash flood struck on Wednesday. Officials said the rising waters posed a significant risk of additional flooding in the affected area.
The devastating flash flood that swept through Rasuwa district and surrounding regions in central Nepal on Wednesday claimed hundreds of lives and left a trail of destruction across settlements, infrastructure, and communication networks. Bridges, roads, and several hydropower facilities sustained major damage in the disaster.
The NDRRMA has specifically advised people in the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river areas to exercise heightened vigilance. The warning extends to both residents of the region and personnel engaged in ongoing search and rescue operations, directing them to relocate to safer locations given the renewed flooding threat.
The fresh warning reflects growing concerns about secondary disasters in flood-affected areas, where saturated ground, debris-clogged waterways, and unstable terrain can trigger additional hazards. Authorities have urged residents and rescue teams to monitor weather updates and heed evacuation orders as rainfall patterns and water conditions remain unpredictable.
