A massive glacial collapse near the Nepal-China border has triggered severe flooding in one of South Asia's most vulnerable regions, exposing the paradox at the heart of Nepal's climate crisis. The collapse sent a violent surge through the Lhende Khola, overwhelming downstream systems including the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers, which serve as critical water sources and transportation routes for millions across Nepal and northern India.

The incident underscores Nepal's precarious position as both a climate victim and a negligible contributor to global emissions. The country accounts for less than 0.1% of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions, yet sits directly in the path of climate impacts amplified by rapid Himalayan glacial retreat.
