Nepal's public and private sectors mobilize millions for flood relief

Nepal continues recovery efforts following a catastrophic flash flood that swept through towns and villages on Wednesday, destroying homes, infrastructure and hydropower facilities across multiple regions. The disaster has emerged as one of the country's worst natural calamities in recent years, with the death toll surpassing 600 as of Saturday and more than 2,400 people reported missing.

Government agencies, private enterprises, banks, insurance firms and individual donors have pledged substantial sums to Nepal's disaster relief fund, demonstrating a coordinated response to the humanitarian crisis. These contributions are expected to support treatment of the injured, provide emergency food supplies and establish temporary shelter for the thousands of families displaced by the flood.

Rescue operations have intensified across affected regions despite challenging weather conditions, with intermittent rainfall hampering search and recovery efforts. Nearly 2,500 people have been evacuated to safety, including 163 foreign nationals trapped in the disaster zone.
