Nepal seeks compensation from India for devastating flash floods

Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal claimed that three countries—China, the United States, and India—bear responsibility for exacerbating greenhouse gas effects and should provide compensation following destructive flash floods that struck the nation.

Khanal's assertion links the natural disaster to climate change impacts, attributing culpability to major emitters. The statement has drawn attention to the climate vulnerability of mountainous South Asian nations and the question of accountability for global warming-related damages.

India's External Affairs Ministry has since issued a response to Khanal's position. The ministry's comments reflect New Delhi's stance on the matter of climate responsibility and disaster compensation.
