The Neral-Matheran Railway, a historic narrow-gauge line in Maharashtra, has published its operational schedule for passengers planning trips to the picturesque hill station. The route stretches 21 kilometres from the base station at Neral to Matheran, serving as a primary transport link to the car-free destination perched at an altitude of 610 metres.
The train service makes three scheduled stops along the scenic route. These intermediate stations are Jumma Patti, Waterpipe and Aman Lodge, providing access points for travellers boarding or alighting during the journey. The stops are located at regular intervals across the route's terrain, which encompasses gradual elevation changes and lush forested sections.
The miniature train has been a popular option among tourists seeking an alternative to road transport to Matheran. The journey offers views of the Western Ghats landscape, making it an attraction in itself for railway enthusiasts and holiday travellers. The narrow-gauge tracks were originally constructed during the British colonial period and remain functional as part of the region's transport infrastructure.
Travellers planning visits to Matheran during the upcoming season are advised to consult the published schedule to plan their journey accordingly. The railway operates services throughout the year, though frequency may vary seasonally based on demand and maintenance requirements.
