Internet service has been restored to around 2,000 households in Singapore's Bishan and Thomson neighbourhoods after a temporary outage disrupted connectivity in the densely populated residential areas.
NetLink Trust, the nation's fibre infrastructure operator, attributed the disruption to damage sustained by its fibre network caused by a third-party contractor. The infrastructure damage necessitated repairs before service could be fully restored to affected residents.
The outage, which impacted a substantial portion of the two residential precincts, has since been resolved following remedial work on the damaged fibre lines. NetLink Trust did not disclose the duration of the service disruption or provide specific details regarding the contractor involved in the incident.
The incident underscores ongoing challenges with protecting critical telecommunications infrastructure in urban areas, where construction and maintenance activities by external contractors pose risks to essential networks serving thousands of households and businesses.
