New $1.1B expressway to slash Mekong Delta travel time to Long Thanh airport

The $1.1 billion Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway is on track to open completely by September 30, marking a significant infrastructure milestone for southern Vietnam's transportation network. The new highway will provide a direct corridor from the Mekong Delta region to Long Thanh International Airport, eliminating the need for travelers to navigate through downtown Ho Chi Minh City.

The expressway is expected to reduce travel times by more than one hour compared to existing routes, substantially improving connectivity for residents and businesses in the fertile delta region. Long Thanh International Airport, located approximately 40 kilometers east of Ho Chi Minh City in Dong Nai province, serves as Vietnam's primary aviation hub and a critical gateway for both domestic and international passengers.

The project represents a key component of Vietnam's broader infrastructure development strategy aimed at decongesting Ho Chi Minh City and enhancing regional connectivity. By providing an alternative route to the airport, the expressway is expected to alleviate pressure on existing thoroughfares while facilitating smoother traffic flow for the Mekong Delta's estimated 17 million residents.

Completion of the Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway comes as Long Thanh International Airport continues its phased expansion to handle growing passenger volumes and cement its position as a major Southeast Asian aviation center.
