New Batang Lupar Bridge slashes Sri Aman-Betong journey to 25 minutes

The Batang Lupar Bridge No. 2 has officially commenced operations, marking a significant infrastructure milestone for Sarawak. The bridge features Malaysia's highest cable-stayed tower, a distinctive engineering achievement that has drawn regional attention.

The new crossing eliminates the need for lengthy detours between Sri Aman and Betong, reducing the route distance from around 73 kilometres to 28 kilometres. Consequently, travel time between the two towns has been compressed to approximately 25 minutes, delivering substantial benefits to commuters, commercial operators and emergency services in the region.

The project represents a major connectivity improvement for Sarawak's Second Division, enhancing road networks that link key commercial and population centres. The bridge's cable-stayed design with its record-height tower demonstrates Malaysia's advancing infrastructure capabilities and engineering expertise.

The opening is expected to generate economic benefits for surrounding communities by facilitating faster movement of goods and services while improving accessibility to hospitals, markets and employment centres across the region.
