The Meteorological Department confirmed that the low-pressure area previously positioned near Sri Lanka has begun tracking westward, moving away from the island nation. This system is expected to continue its departure from Sri Lankan territory in the coming days.
Meanwhile, a new area of low pressure has developed over the Bay of Bengal in proximity to the North Andaman Islands. Meteorological forecasters predict this system will remain concentrated in the Bay of Bengal region before undergoing intensification.
According to current projections, the developing system is anticipated to strengthen into a depression by October 24. The intensification process will be closely monitored by weather authorities monitoring the region.
The formation of the new system underscores the active weather patterns typical of the season across the Bay of Bengal and northern Indian Ocean regions. Residents and maritime authorities in the region are advised to monitor updates as conditions develop.
