The District Collector formally inaugurated the box cricket turf facility at the District Sports Stadium in Katpadi during a ceremony on Tuesday. The new installation is designed to provide a dedicated space for box cricket, a condensed format of the sport that has gained popularity across India in recent years.
Box cricket requires minimal space compared to traditional cricket grounds, making it an accessible option for urban and semi-urban areas. The facility is expected to serve as a training and competitive platform for local players of varying skill levels, from recreational participants to aspiring athletes.
The addition of the box cricket turf is part of broader infrastructure development efforts at the district sports complex. Officials stated the facility would support community engagement in sports and help identify emerging talent in the region.
The stadium management has outlined plans for regular tournaments and coaching programmes at the new venue. District authorities indicated that the turf would be made available to schools, colleges, and sports clubs in the area at designated timings.
