The Central Armed Police Forces Act, which establishes common protocols for officer-related matters, has now been implemented across the country's five major paramilitary forces. The legislation creates a unified framework addressing critical aspects of personnel management that previously operated under divergent regulations.
The Act consolidates provisions relating to officer recruitment, career progression and service terms across the Central Armed Police Forces, which form a critical component of India's internal security apparatus. By establishing standardized procedures, the legislation aims to bring consistency and transparency to administrative processes that affect thousands of officers serving in these organizations.
The framework also addresses the deputation of officers across forces and other inter-organizational transfers, streamlining processes that facilitate personnel movement between the paramilitary bodies. Officials expect the unified approach to reduce administrative delays and create clearer pathways for career advancement within the forces.
The five Central Armed Police Forces—comprising the Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Sashastra Seema Bal—employ over one million personnel collectively. The new legislative structure brings enhanced clarity to service conditions and operational procedures that were previously governed by separate departmental regulations and orders.
