Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said India's revamped criminal justice system will ensure cases are resolved from FIR to Supreme Court verdict within three years, marking a significant departure from the country's history of protracted litigation.

Addressing delegates at a cattle rearers' conference in Bhopal, Shah claimed the full implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) would transform India's judicial framework into one of the world's most modern systems. The Home and Cooperation Minister inaugurated an exhibition on the new criminal laws at the Dussehra Ground in the city's BHEL area, highlighting the government's commitment to expediting case resolution.
Shah's remarks signal a substantial shift in the country's approach to criminal justice administration. India's judicial system has long been criticized for delays, with the phrase "tareekh pe tareekh" (date after date) becoming synonymous with court adjournments. The new legislation aims to address these structural bottlenecks through streamlined procedures and timelines.
Beyond criminal law reforms, Shah also outlined the government's strategy to combat drug abuse. He announced that New Delhi is developing a comprehensive plan to eliminate narcotics-related issues in Madhya Pradesh, setting a deadline of December 31, 2029 for achieving a drug-free state. The nationwide anti-narcotics campaign reflects the government's broader public health and security agenda across the region.
