New expressway links boost An Giang's cross-border trade potential

An Giang province is positioned to benefit significantly from newly operational expressway connections to border checkpoints, according to provincial administration officials. The infrastructure links are designed to reduce transportation times and costs for freight moving between Vietnam and Cambodia, while creating conditions for expanded commercial activity in border zones.

Effective implementation of these transport corridors could attract new investment in logistics, warehousing, and trade services throughout An Giang's border areas. Officials have emphasized that shorter cargo routes and improved border crossing efficiency will generate economic momentum in traditionally less developed frontier regions.

Progressively, Vietnam and Cambodia are working to facilitate smoother cross-border movement. Recent developments include a joint survey on implementing cross-border road transport procedures through the Tan Nam–Meun Chey border gates, and customs authorities have issued directives to accelerate clearance processes for agricultural exports at border crossings. These measures complement the broader infrastructure expansion underway.

Recent border operations have also seen increased people-to-people movement, with An Giang receiving 137 Vietnamese citizens handed over by Cambodia authorities, underscoring the active nature of bilateral border engagement. As trade corridors improve and procedures streamline, officials expect these improvements will create sustainable economic benefits for communities in Vietnam's southwestern border region.
